Hey Anonymous, when my friends and I were walking to the bus stop, these two guys were handing out flyers and my friends and I were really hesitant to, so we didn't. One of my friends did take one and called the number, but no one picked up. I looked at the flier and noticed that the job description was so vague, and the website was just thestar.com, not even any specific link to go to.
It does smell really fishy, but when I went to our guidance office one day, I saw the flyers on the table and took one since I thought it was okay since the school took some.

But when I read all the posts on here saying it was a scam, I decided to call and pound them with some serious questions. It's door to door . You're picked up from a designated spot ... and brought to "another location" - one that they cannot specify . Then you are given a script and you say it and sell newspapers. They are definitely not flexible , considering they only have ONE SHIFT for the week . When I asked about the pay, she couldn't properly answer my question, so its definitely not what you think . I'm tell you kids, be careful , this is out to lure you . I don't know what they're up to, but it's definitely not cool . I'm keeping myself anonymous so they don't come freaking hunt me down like wild hawks. It is scary, a waste of time, and to sketchy . They don't do an official interview, they just tell you to come. And just cause your school offered it, doesn't mean there was an official background check about it . It complete bull .

SCAM STORY! I copied the phone number from the flier at school and this guy with a really strong accent that I can't place picked up. I had a weird feeling right away because there was a lot of background noise, he spoke unclearly, and he gave me no information about getting a job, telling me to call back later because he was busy. It was very unprofessional and I definitely won't be calling him back after reading all the other scam stories in the comments.

It`s a scam! Whenever you receive the flyer, just rip it up! When you first call, they won`t answer, afterwards they`ll call you back. What I did is grilled them with hard questions, and trust me, they act unprofessionally, i.e. giving you vague answers to your questions. From reading all the anonymous comments above me, stating it`s a scam. IT`S TRUE! SO PLEASE DON`T TAKE A JOB JUST BECAUSE OF THE MONEY. Look at this way, the flyers are really vague with the job description, the link to the Star does not specify an exact URL and lastly the amount of money you can earn seems very unrealistic. Come on, $450 a week? For a summer job? pshhhh >:( SO PLEASE! I BEG YOU! DO NOT APPLY FOR THIS JOB!

The people that say this job is a scam, they're wrong BUT it doesn't mean that this job is good.
In fact, this job is terrible no matter how experienced you are with talking to people and persuading them.
This is how it works:
- Basically, you'll call the number and they wont pick up a few times. After the 3rd or 4th time of caliing them, they'll answer.
You'll have to give them your name, your phone number, and some other information. If you're between 14-17, your parents will have to confirm that you can work.
Then they'll ask you to come for a "training session" where you'll be paired up with a person who did the job for about a year or two. I was paired up with a guy name Ray.
We had to go to the subway station where we meet these "reps" and then they pick ups up in a van. The managers or the main guys are Danny and Jacob. One of the "reps" will text you a presentation or if you don't have a phone, you'll have to write it down. While in the van, they'll ask you to read it to them. I can't post the presentation here but basically,,,
"Hi, my name is Anonymous and I'm in a student program for the Toronto Star. If you try out a promotion from the Toronto Star for just 3 weeks, I'll get $1000 toward my tuition fees. You only have to try it out for 3 weeks which is only 9 dollars. You'll have get FREE bonuses such as the Times, a TV guide, and free grocery savings. (And it goes on about something else, I forgot)
They'll give you a blue binder with the order forms and they put you in a random area. You'll have to go door to door and say this presentation in order to make the person feel sorry for you and so on. You also have to work in the rain and in the snow.
Everytime you make sale you get $15. The "rep" that I was paired up with made one sale in the 5 hours that we were there. That means he made $15 in 5 hours. Are you f'ing kidding me? A lot of the people that we were trying to sell our promo to said they read the news on the Internet nowadays or they would say that the TORONTO STAR IS SHIT! You barely make any money at all and it's time consuming. You have to work at least 3 days a week and you might not get any sales at all.
Don't do this job, rip that flyer if you see it. Go for the minumum wage if you're still young. It's better money than this.

Alright so, Im going to make this clear for everyone since ive been reading the comments and people think its a scam. This is a commission based job. You go door to door and you sell subscriptions to the Toronto Star newspaper, the hours are flexible because you work 3 to 4 days a week and you can change it every week as well as they are flexible to any situation you may have, like sports, family, school, exc. Secondly, for the complete retards who are complaining about the 1000 dollars for university, you are never told that you are getting that, although you do say it at the door, to get the customer interested, its not really lying because you also mention that you need 50 people to sign up to get the money, which if you do the math per sale,its about 1000 dollars. The reason why the managers might not seem legit or "are busy" on the phone is because they are working as you call, so just be sure to call after work hours, although they still try their best to help you sometimes. Now another thing about this job is that you need to be good at speaking to people, this job isn't for everyone, so I can understand why people would go on the site and hate on the job, just take my word for it, because I have been through everything with this job, even on its worst aspects. In conclusion the job is legit, and you will find yourself working with some very awesome people that you will be comfortable with. Thank you

I have been through this job. I know a lot of people in the above comments thinks of it as a scam just because they went for a day or two and DID NOT make any sales. This job isn't for anybody and you need a lot of patience and hardwork and training before you can start earning money. But if you are a peoples person, you can definitely make money, even on your first day. It is a COMMISSIONS job, which means that you are paid for how ever many sales you make. Let me give you the details, you get paid $15 per sale. This makes that if you slack off and do nothing the entire day, obviously you will NOT make any money. However, if you actually try, I have come to realize that most people who work with me make around one sale an hour, so $15 an hour. And you don't work outside in the winter, you can work in buildings during the winter time. It's also extremely flexible because you do get to choose the days you want to work each week and have fun working with your friends.

Please DO NOT fall for this SCAM! They take you in a van into a sketchy area They don't allow you to tell anyone where you are. My Nephew fell for this Scam, they refused him to answer his phone when his Father called. He was under the impression it was "an interview" no it was not, they throw you into a van with other vulnerable victims take you to an disclosed area & tell you walk the streets. You could be pedaling for hours and not get a customer so they will say nope we're not paying you a dime. Not to mention the girls had be hit in by the people that worked for this SCAM.. Be careful..
